Homebound & Hospital Calls
What is the benefit of eating and drinking the Sacrament of the Altar? These words, “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins,” show us that in the Sacrament forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given us through these words. For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is also life and salvation.
This forgiveness sets us free from our sinful past, in which death and the tyranny of Satan were our only future. Christ’s body and blood give us a new life and a new future every time we partake of the Sacrament. Another way of looking at the Lord’s Supper is that in it, we receive the medicine of immortality. Jesus said: “Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him” (John 6:54-56).
